It was at the Montreal Olympic Games 1976 that she had one of the most unforgettable moments in sports history and that was the first ever perfect 10 on the asymmetrical bars. In the following years, she was able to score an additional six perfect 10s, making her the youngest Olympic all-around gold medalist at just 14 years old. The Romanian gymnast was able to draw international attention and aid in helping Romania get its place in the global spotlight. With a score that was not possible the sport's icon helped bring gymnastics to the forefront of international attention. Women's perception of athletes also changed due to her achievements. Her impact on the Olympics was so significant it is that 2 of her movements including the toe-on and the release movement have been designated in honor of her. Both are rated as high-level difficulty. Besides Olympics her performance was impressive. She also showed outstanding results in her participation in the World Championships and European Championships and was subsequently an icon as well as one of the best-known gymnasts the world could ever achieve. She also modeled and promoted the sport of gymnastics after moving to the US.
