Her family is originally of Buenos Aires, but moved to Victoria in the year she turned six years old. Taylor-Joy says the move to London was traumatic and that she didn't take the time to learn English so that she could avoid returning to Argentina. Hill House was the new school she was required to attend following her departure from Northlands. Then she attended Queen's Gate School where she was a ballet student and performed in school plays. At 16, she quit the school in order to focus in acting full-time. Taylor-Joy always knew that she wanted to be an actress. She achieved this when Sarah Doukas founder of Storm Management, offered Taylor-Joy an opportunity to model.
